With the inaugural Winchester Half Marathon fast approaching, the Marafun team is working hard to make it an event where everyone can get involved. Scheduled for the morning of Sunday 25th September, to tie in with the Winchester Community Games in the afternoon, the runners will need as many #WINCity Marshals as possible to keep spirits high and support them around the route.

Nikita Bailie, the Winchester Half Race Director said “We’d love to have local groups helping out managing areas such as the ‘Bag Drop’ or water stations, as well as marshalling a Mile. In return the Winchester Half Marathon will donate £200 to your charity or cause! You will need to have 20 people or more, and you can bring along group flags or branding to help with your Winchester Wave!”

The WINCity Marshals and city residents will not be the only contributors to the exciting event, Fee Francis; the Marafun Event Manager said “We are delighted to have The Right Worshipful, the Mayor of Winchester, Councillor Jane Rutter on board to start the new Winchester Half Marathon and set the runners off on the exciting and challenging route! We are excited to see how we can work together and help raise money for the Mayor’s charities!”

Councillor Jane Rutter was appointed as the 817th Mayor of Winchester at Winchester Guildhall on Wednesday 18th May 2016. Since taking on her new role she has dedicated herself to helping the city and local events.

Councillor Jane Rutter added, “The Winchester Half will be an exciting addition to the City’s sporting activities, especially at the end of the same week that I will be cycling 90 miles around the District in two days on 19th & 20th September with a team from Worthy Down in aid of the Mayor’s Charities”.

Opening the Winchester Half Marathon, Jane Rutter will also be having up to 10 representatives running in aid of the Mayors Charities.
