Winchester Wave – Only 43 Days to Go!

It is 43 days until the Winchester city will see its first ever Half Marathon in over 30 years. On the 25th of September 2016, 3,000 runners will take to the city to run through and across Winchester’s historical picturesque city.

Rees Leisure, the events company behind the ABP Marathon, Half and 10K and TryTri series, believe this event will not only bring the city together but also help boost local events and help raise money for great causes.

Fee Francis, the Event Manager for the Winchester Half Marathon, said “Winchester Half Marathon is a great event for the city. Runners are raising money for a variety of local charities including Naomi House, The Haven and the Mayor’s charities which will have a significant local impact!”

WINCity Marshals will be helping the local residents motivate the runners throughout the whole route. Nikita Bailie, the Winchester Half Race Director said “WINCity Marshals are some of the most important people at our events; they help motivate the runners to get round the route! We will have the spread over the whole route to keep the race running smoothly. We’re still accepting WINCity marshal groups and individuals, it is never too late to volunteer! We will always give you something in return; just email events@reesleisure.co.uk for more information.”

To help get the city ready for the Winchester Half, the Winchester Half team have been out and about in the city and getting the whole community involved. The team have also released the ‘Winchester Half Workout Gear’ - Fee Francis said “We can’t wait to see everyone training in the merchandise, you can wear your tops and jumpers throughout your training! Take the merchandise on the journey with you, train and complete the Winchester Half in your green tee, then you can treasure it after the race. We get lots of people framing their tops with the medals, a great keep sake!”
